Everything to Know About the New Weight Loss Drug Retatrutide
It has been more than four years since this publication called out the fact that the suddenly and suspiciously skinny people in your life had something in common: a prescription for a then-under-the-radar drug called Ozempic. Since then, GLP-1s have become ubiquitous and quotidian, shedding the secrecy that initially surrounded them.
Until now—because once again there’s a new drug on the block, and it is hush-hush. For good reason: It’s not yet FDA approved, which means the legions of Hollywood types and longevity fanatics who are already taking the triple agonist called retatrutide—which targets GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors and is showing weight reductions double those of its predecessors—are scoring it from illicit, gray market sources. “China” is what most of the newly sinewy semicelebs said when we asked how they were getting their “ret” or “reta” (users are divided on the nickname), which so far is officially available only from Eli Lilly under a compassionate use application. A few select compounding pharmacies were also mentioned.
“Don’t forget to buy this,” one starlet told us, sending a link to a vial of bacteriostatic water that ret users must mix with the drug, which arrives in a powder form, before injecting it. Bodybuilders are also bullish on ret, claiming it leads to a more chiseled appearance than prior GLPs. It will likely be a year or more before your doctor can prescribe ret. In the meantime, buyer beware: Doctors caution against purchasing it online. Even if half of L.A. has already thrown caution to the wind.
